Our tallow

Our tallow is sourced from a certified organic local farm here in Iowa that offers 100% grass fed… and FINISHED cattle! Why is grass finished important when choosing a tallow skincare product?

Grass is best

Nutrient Profile

Animals that are grass-finished typically have a different nutrient profile compared to grain finished. Grass-fed animals tend to have higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), and antioxidants like vitamin E. These nutrients can contribute to improved health benefits when used in skincare products!

Healthier Fats

Grass-fed animals generally produce fat that is higher in omega-3 fatty acids (specifically alpha-linolenic acid) and lower in omega-6 fatty acids compared to grain-fed animals. This balance of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids is considered more optimal for human health, as excessive omega-6 intake has been linked to inflammation and other health issues.

Antioxidants

Grass-fed animal fat tends to contain higher levels of antioxidants such as vitamin E and beta-carotene, which can help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.

No Added Hormones or Antibiotics

Grass-finished animals are typically raised without the use of hormones or antibiotics, which can be important for those seeking cleaner, more natural sources of fat.

Environmental Impact

Grass-fed farming practices often promote better soil health and biodiversity, contributing to overall environmental sustainability compared to intensive grain-fed.

How is our Tallow made?

Tallow is the liquid gold that is left after rendering down or cleaning our grass finished fat. We process our tallow is small batches. Why smaller batches?

We found that processing tallow in smaller batches allows us to manipulate it better giving us an overall cleaner product.
Our tallow is processed using sterile techniques when handling and in between renderings. It is then dry rendered to ensure there is no moisture.
