Cooking Tallow
Our cooking tallow is also locally sourced from small farms here in Iowa and rendered in small batches!
Cooking with beef tallow offers several advantages, especially when it comes to high-heat cooking. Beef tallow has a high smoke point (around 400–420°F or 204–216°C), making it ideal for frying, sautéing, and roasting without breaking down or releasing harmful compounds. It also adds a rich, savory flavor to dishes, which enhances the taste of meats, potatoes, and vegetables. Additionally, beef tallow is a natural fat that contains a balance of saturated and monounsaturated fats, which some people prefer over vegetable oils for cooking due to concerns over processing and trans fats in many refined oils
Cooking with a grain finished beef tallow tends to have a milder, more neutral flavor, which is often preferred for general cooking because it doesn't overpower the other flavors in the dish. Grass-finished beef tallow tends to be more nutrient-dense, offering higher amounts of antioxidants and omega-3s, which can contribute to a healthier fat profile.
we get asked a lot…..can you use cooking tallow for skincare? Yes you can, but we don’t recommend. Our cooking tallow is also locally sourced from small farms, but our skincare tallow is certified organic grass fed & finished beef tallow!
